Introduction

  • Manages various multi-discipline studies and projects related to control systems (DCS, PLC) engineering in Operations.
  • Manages interaction with Engineering Technical Services/Consultants/Contractors and relevant project executors to ensure maximum optimization of assets and ultimate revenue.
  • Work closely with OMS(R) section for all matters related to control systems design and architecture.

What are you going to do 

  • Assess and manage implementation feasibility for control system modifications and upgrades proposed for Dukhan and Operation areas (End users) to ensure consistency and compliance with standards and criteria for improving operational efficiency and asset integrity.
  • Participate in the review and refinement of control system designs, specifications, and technical documents throughout the project lifecycle from definition to closeout, ensuring adherence to planned schedules.
  • Prepare Statement of Requirements (SOR) documents as the preliminary stage for project initiation, and oversee the uploading of Project Initiation Note (PIN) deliverables in SAP, following up on endorsements and approvals.
  • Review, provide feedback, and liaise between end-user departments and project facilitators on design and specification documents to ensure timely review and resolution of key issues.
  • Participate in safety sessions such as HAZID, HAZOP, ENVID & HAZAN studies to assess potential hazards, analyze risks, and ensure appropriate mitigation controls are in place according to established procedures and standards.
  • Review and convey end-user comments to the Engineering department or execution contractor through appropriate technical document management systems, resolving any conflicts that may arise.
  • Provide support and act as a communication interface between the Engineering Group and end-users, ensuring smooth collaboration and alignment of project goals.
  • Ensure thorough review, evaluation, and implementation of SAP Technical Management of Change (MOC) requests for facility changes, optimizing resources while ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks and project schedules.
  • Conduct process simulations to assess the viability of proposed changes and improvements, collaborating with operational teams to validate findings.
  • Monitor and coordinate the preliminary feasibility study of Technical MOCs, resolving any process or operation-related issues with relevant departments before proposing and approving changes.
  • Take responsibility for all new projects with the department from the SOR stage to commissioning and handover, ensuring alignment with asset holder requirements.

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or equivalent, with hands-on experience in control systems such as DCS and PLC.
  • Proficiency in software tools such as HYSYS, PIPENET, PIPEPHASE, FLARENET for process simulation and project management.
  • Membership in a Chartered Professional Institute is advantageous.
  • Fluent in written and oral English communication.
  • SAP certification or working knowledge is mandatory.
  • More than 10 years of experience in control systems engineering in industries such as gas processing plants, refineries, or similar hydrocarbon plants.
  • Minimum of 6 years in a senior supervisory position or engineering capacity.
  • In-depth experience in using computer simulations for process optimization.
  • Familiarity with engineering standards and codes such as API, NFPA, ASME, BS/EN, and SHELL DEP.
  • Holder of a Light Vehicle Driving License issued by Qatar Traffic Department.
  • Completion of Defensive Driving training/course.
