Introduction

Brunel is seeking an experienced environmental and regulatory professional to support a major oil and gas project. This role will lead environmental and regulatory activities across the full project lifecycle, from engineering and procurement through to construction and commissioning. Acting as the key contact for these matters, you will help ensure compliance requirements are met and strong environmental performance is maintained throughout delivery.

What are you going to do 

  • Act as the single point of contact for all environmental and regulatory matters across the project
  • Coordinate and oversee environmental and regulatory programs through engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning phases
  • Support the preparation of project ESHIA and EMP documentation with consultants and the wider project team
  • Develop, coordinate endorsement of, and implement the project's Regulatory Compliance Plan and Environmental Management Plan
  • Assist the SHE Manager in supporting environmental and regulatory activities, including the identification and implementation of best practice and lessons learned
  • Obtain required permits, licences and approvals within project timeframes, while tracking approval progress and ongoing compliance status
  • Interface closely with design and execution teams to ensure environmental, socioeconomic and health requirements are integrated into project design and implementation plans
  • Provide environmental and regulatory input into EPC contractor ITT packages and coordination procedures
  • Contribute to cost and schedule estimates associated with approvals, compliance activities and environmental deliverables
  • Recommend and oversee mitigation measures for environmental, socioeconomic and health-related risks and impacts
  • Review EPC contractor plans and deliverables, including environmental, waste, spill response, socioeconomic and health plans
  • Provide guidance to project teams and contractors on regulatory compliance obligations and environmental performance requirements
  • Develop and implement effective environmental performance monitoring and EMP compliance procedures
  • Coordinate monitoring activities with construction managers, supervisors and contractors across site operations
  • Conduct routine inspections and assessments of contractor work sites
  • Investigate, document and report compliance initiatives and any non-conformance matters
  • Prepare internal stewardship reporting and external reports required for government and lender compliance
  • Coordinate specialist technical experts engaged for environmental and regulatory tasks
  • Support project training and awareness sessions relating to environmental performance, compliance and EMP implementation
  • Facilitate communication between field teams and project SHE leadership on environmental and regulatory matters

Essential skills and knowledge

  • Previous experience in a similar Environmental and Regulatory Advisory role
  • A university degree in Environmental Science, Natural Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Social Sciences, Engineering, or another relevant technical discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in environmental and/or socioeconomic and/or health disciplines, ideally within construction, infrastructure, extractive industries, oil & gas, mining or major capital projects
  • Strong understanding of environmental approvals, regulatory compliance and management planning
  • Experience working with EPC contractors and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Strong stakeholder engagement, organisational and coordination skills
  • The ability to work collaboratively across project, site and contractor teams
