Brunel is currently partnering with our mining client who is seeking an Environmental Engineer for direct hire in Arizona.

What are you going to do 

The Environmental Engineer is responsible for managing environmental compliance programs and projects from planning through completion. This role supports permitting, regulatory compliance, environmental monitoring, reporting, remediation activities, and site operations while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local environmental requirements. The position works closely with operations, contractors, regulators, and leadership and may oversee contractors and field personnel as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage environmental projects from initial scope, budget, and scheduling through execution and closure.
  • Maintain compliance with environmental permits and regulatory requirements, including:
    • EPA Class III UIC permits
    • ADEQ Aquifer Protection Permits (APP)
    • Air Quality permits
    • Stormwater permits and reporting requirements
  • Provide technical interpretation of environmental regulations and permit requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain environmental compliance programs related to air, water, wastewater, stormwater, waste, and groundwater management.
  • Evaluate environmental monitoring data, laboratory results, and field testing activities to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct environmental sampling and data collection for air, water, groundwater, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous waste, solid waste, and soil.
  • Support monitoring well installation, drilling investigations, soil sampling, and sample shipment activities.
  • Manage regulatory reporting, permit renewals, compliance documentation, and recordkeeping requirements.
  • Support reclamation, remediation, and site closure projects.
  • Investigate and manage EHS incidents and corrective actions.
  • Troubleshoot environmental systems and equipment.
  • Perform due diligence assessments, risk evaluations, and site characterization studies.
  • Monitor contractors to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and permit requirements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or a related environmental engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of environmental compliance and professional environmental experience.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental permitting, compliance, and regulatory reporting.
  • Experience with regulations including TSCA, NEPA, EPCRA, CWA, CAA, CERCLA, RCRA, and/or SDWA.
  • Strong understanding of groundwater quality permitting, environmental obligations, compliance schedules, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience preparing technical reports and presenting environmental data through written, numerical, graphical, and tabular formats.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively across teams.
  • MUST be eligible to work in the U.S. for any employer without the need for sponsorship now or in the future.

Essential skills and knowledge

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with reclamation and remediation projects.
  • Experience developing and implementing Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
  • Experience designing and managing environmental compliance programs.
  • Experience conducting environmental audits and inspections.
  • EPA certifications or other relevant environmental certifications/licenses.
  • Experience delivering environmental compliance training to operations personnel.
  • Experience monitoring environmental management performance and compliance metrics.

This role is ideal for an experienced environmental professional with strong permitting and compliance expertise, particularly in groundwater, air quality, stormwater, and mining or industrial operations.
