Contracts Specialist

Introduction

Brunel is currently seeking an experienced Contracts Specialist to support major project activities for a growing mining organization. This role is ideal for a commercial professional who thrives in dynamic environments and enjoys building contract management processes, governance frameworks, and best practices from the ground up.

The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in commercial contracting strategies and contract lifecycle management, while providing guidance to project and procurement stakeholders throughout project execution.

Responsibilities

• Support the development and implementation of contract management procedures, standards, and best practices.
• Establish and enhance contracting processes, governance frameworks, templates, controls, and commercial workflows.
• Develop and execute commercial contracting strategies aligned with project objectives and risk profiles.
• Provide commercial and contractual guidance to project teams, procurement personnel, and key stakeholders.
• Support procurement activities, contract negotiations, evaluations, and award recommendations.
• Manage contract administration activities throughout the contract lifecycle, from planning through closeout.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate contractual and commercial risks.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, and industry best practices.
• Assist with contract execution, change management, claims avoidance, and dispute resolution activities as required.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen contract management capabilities across the organization.

Requirements

• 10-15 years of experience in contracts management, commercial management, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience developing and implementing commercial contracting strategies across T&M, Lump Sum, and Unit Rate contract models.
• Strong understanding of contract lifecycle management, commercial risk management, and contracting governance.
• Experience supporting procurement and contract execution activities on major capital projects.
• Proven ability to work effectively in organizations with developing or less mature contracting frameworks.
• Experience within the mining, construction, infrastructure, or major projects sector is preferred.
• Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
• Highly adaptable, hands-on, and comfortable building processes and procedures in evolving project environments.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
