About this role

As the Rotating Equipment Engineer, you’ll be the leader of risk and reliability for critical machines at a major plant based in Waggaman, LA. You’ll work with Operations, Turnaround and Project functions to identify and scope requirements for turnarounds. You will take the technical R&I role and take action to address equipment deficiencies effectively and promptly.

You’ll ensure all major rotating equipment risks are identified, assessed, documented and mitigated. You’ll be making recommendations in this role, contributing to a significant reduction in the frequency and business impact of rotating equipment failures. Your expertise in petro-chemical manufacturing, power generation or other heavy industry, will support a structured approach to reliability management.

Other duties will include:

  • Ensuring all preventative and predictive maintenance work orders in SAP PM are in line with equipment maintenance strategies
  • Ensuring that all rotating plant equipment assets at the Plant have Reliability and Capability Life Plans and maintenance strategies
  • Influencing the operation of critical machines within defined integrity operating windows
  • Driving the implementation of the reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) business process (criticality analysis, maintenance strategies)
  • Leading RCAs for consequence 3 and above for rotating equipment hazard, near miss and incidents
  • Completing equipment failure investigations using root cause analysis techniques
  • Conducting engineering statistical reliability studies from the risk assessments, criticality data, corrective maintenance history, and failure history records
  • Undertaking and organize technical investigations, inspections, studies and surveys, and analyzing all historical data, to determine rotating plant equipment risk and criticality
  • Continuous update and review rotating plant equipment items in the operational risk registers. Implement effective controls and improvement actions (elimination/reduction)

In this role, you’ll be ensuring compliance for all Company HSE Performance Standards, relevant external statutory regulations and internal plant and engineering standards. You’ll communicate all requirements to the relevant stakeholders and operational personnel. You’ll ensure correct application of change management policies and standards. You’ll be part of the team implementing and auditing standards and guidelines in collaboration with Principal Engineers and Operational Personnel.

About you

You’ll need detailed knowledge of rotating plant equipment and good knowledge of materials, failure mechanisms, fabrication and repair processes and procedures. You must be technically competent with respect to management of rotating equipment – and in particular – rotor dynamics, performance monitoring, principles of compressible flow, principles of lubrication management, condition monitoring, reliability benchmarks, best engineering practices, and machinery overhaul practices.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required for this position.

Knowledge and expertise for this role:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in maintenance and/or engineering of a petrol-chemical manufacturing plant, power generation or similar heavy industry environment (to include management of turnaround systems)
  • Familiarity with Safety Management System, Quality Management Systems and Manufacturing Excellence models, systems and processes relating to asset capability and reliability
  • Demonstrated ability in optimizing reliability e.g. reducing failure rates, increasing uptime, etc.
  • Strong understanding of RBM (Risk-based Maintenance) and RCM (reliability-centered maintenance) maintenance strategy development
