About this role

Responsibilities

  • Direct the research and development team to meet organizational needs, through development, validation and implementation of new analytical testing methods for the analysis of cannabis and contaminants
  • Provide expert technical input on client requests and new product testing
  • Assess the scope of research projects to prioritize and ensure resource allocation to meet delivery deadlines
  • Lead R&D business units to meet targets and client objectives, according to project plans and timelines
  • Work with the Director of Laboratory Operations and the Director of Laboratory Technology to facilitate the transfer of new methods to the routine testing division
  • Strategically collaborate with the Director of Laboratory Technology to ensure methodology remains at the forefront of cannabis science
  • Lead the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and standard test methods (STMs) and train Testing Division staff in accordance with the Quality Management System and with the support of the Quality Assurance team
  • Perform analysis of cannabis samples by following established SOPs and STMs

About you

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or other relevant scientific discipline
  • 5-10 years of experience in a commercial R&D setting
  • Expertise utilizing HPLC-UV, LC-MS and LC-MS/MS, and GC-MS techniques;
  • Knowledge and experience with Waters’ MassLynx and Empower, Agilent’s OpenLab and Shimadzu’s GCMS Solution Chromatography software
  • 5+ years project and people management experience
  • Experience with LIMS for sample tracking is an asset
  • Hands-on experience in analytical method development and validation for small molecules, particularly in the context of phytochemistry, natural products chemistry, or environmental toxicology
  • Expertise in method design working with unique and complex matrices including plant, food, and cosmetics
  • Knowledge of regulations and/or experience working in a regulated environment such as ISO/IEC 17025 and GLP
