The Quality Assurance Person is directly responsible for the approval and quality of cannabis throughout the growth and harvesting stages when the Quality Assurance Person is unavailable. Main responsibilities include assuring quality products and processes by establishing and enforcing quality standards and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) systems; implementing quality improvement initiatives to raise performance of company’s product lines; and educate and train employees as to their impact in the Quality Management System (QMS) for a licensed commercial facility. The Quality Assurance Person assists in the regulation process for products requiring governmental approval, including filing necessary applications and collaborating with appropriate regulatory agencies. Participates in the inspection of the organization and contract facilities and develops procedures to ensure regulatory compliance.

Scope of Role:

Provides oversight on the performance of all Quality Assurance (QA) personnel, practices and procedures

  • Provides strategic guidance regarding Health Canada and global regulatory requirements;
  • Compile, review, approve and submit applications, amendments and supplements;
  • Manage and ensure compliance with all reporting requirements, including annual and periodic reports;
  • Initiate the development and ongoing amendment of the company Standard Operating Procedures;
  • Is the internal compliance auditor ensuring compliance with all regulatory rules and regulations;
  • Provide regulatory input for follow-up to inspections and audits to minimize potential for findings of non-compliance;
  • Manage processes involved with maintaining annual licenses, registrations, listings and patent information;
  • Ensures that the QA practices align with the company’s business plan and to GPP/GMP standards;
  • Develops the education curriculum for training employees;
  • Develops and executes product quality and yield improvement strategies;
  • Assures regulatory requirements are embodied in all policies, directives, practices, processes and forms;
  • Establishes and maintains product quality documentation by writing and updating quality assurance procedures;
  • Establishes the following quality and reliability standards by studying their respective requirements, processes, and procedures;
  • Raw material standards;
  • In-process product inspection standards;
  • Standards for the disposition of finished products;
  • Rework standards;
  • Maintains and improves product quality by enforcing quality assurance policies and procedures and government requirements; completing product, company, system, and compliance audits; investigating customer complaints; and collaborating with other members of management to develop new product and engineering designs as well as manufacturing and training methods;
  • Develops quality assurance plans by conducting hazard analyses; identifying critical control points and preventative measures; establishes critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions and verification procedures;
  • Prepares product and process quality reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends;
  • Enforce regulatory requirements in addition to read and be familiar with the Security Directive;
  • Maintains quality staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.

What you need to bring:


  • Has at least 5-8 years of direct experience in a Quality Assurance role;
  • Has a solid understanding of grow operations, and in particular, cannabis grow operations;
  • Must be familiar with the Cannabis regulations and its relation to the Food and Drug Act;
  • Be familiar with the Cannabis Act approved pesticides and their chemical and non-chemical approved treatments and applications;
  • Post-secondary education, preferably in horticulture and/or manufacturing field;
  • Strong background in managing budgets and financial targets;
  • Strong business acumen, management reporting, project management and problem-solving skills;
  • Knows how to establish excellent relationships with key stakeholders;
  • Experience in writing reports and presentations to leadership and stakeholders;
  • Solid background and understanding of information systems that are key to operations;
  • Proven experience in leading teams and managing performance development;
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health requirements for operation.

  • Must possess or successfully obtain Health Canada’s Security Clearance; under the Cannabis Regulations;
  • Solid project and time management skills;
  • Business hours with overtime as required.
