We’re hiring a Research Scientist for our client, a well-established pharmaceutical company that is now breaking into the Cannabis Industry. This individual will build out a highly skilled research team over the next year and perform all tasks with chemical identifications, fractionation and purification, high volume analytics and mass data transfer. This role will be crucial to Cannabis research and development and enable this company to become an industry leader.

About this role


  • Working daily on high volume analytics obtained from complex mixtures coupled with mass data (terabytes);
  • Enable all data to be machine learnable in close working relationship with data and technology leads;
  • Communicate effectively with various departments and explain results;
  • Work heavily with extractions;
  • Using Orbitrap mass spectrometry and semipreparative and preparative chromatographic methods;
  • Organize the spread of responsibilities within a growing laboratory team;
  • Research industry trends, drive solutions from Proof of Value to industrialization, phase-in and phase-out technology as required.

About you


  • Master’s degree or PhD in Analytical Chemistry required; familiarity with mass data transfer from analytical instruments to a central location, data analysis and data processing preferred;
  • Minimum of 6 years’ hands on experience working in the pharmaceutical industry and experience with natural products;
  • Experience in managing high-performing research teams;
  • New and insightful ways to process data and develop analytics environment solutions aligned to the program vision;
  • Proficiency in analytics environments and knowledge of latest statistical tools;
  • Ability to explain statistical results to a non-technical audience.
  • Ability to understand or knowledgeable of Pharma R&D science units and data generated (chemistry modelling, Omics, assays, clinical trial data analytics etc.);
  • An advanced degree and related accreditations are a plus;
  • Previous hands-on design and implementation experience in analytics-related activities is a plus;
  • Previous experience in a similar position within the cannabis industry is a plus.
