About this role

Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of the Construction Management of a Tier 1 (>$100MCAD) capital project in full coordination with any assigned Industrial Affairs (IA) Project Senior Director, and Tier 1 Project Director (GEM) during the construction phase.
  • Deliver approved Tier 1 capital projects in accordance with safety, quality/performance, schedule and costs during the construction phase.
  • Accountable for the safety of the jobsite in collaboration with the Tier 1 Project Director (GEM), Construction Manager (CM) and HSE department.
  • Accountable for the construction phase execution strategy in consultation and collaboration with the Tier 1 Project Director (GEM).
  • Accountable for the selection of technologies for the building in accordance with global and site requirements.
  • Collaboration with Process Engineering, C&Q, M-Tech, HSE, Operations and support functions to achieve deliverables.
  • Accountable for the cost and schedule of the construction phase of the project.
  • Accountable for management and reporting of risk and critical issues, as well as the management action plan of the construction part of the project
  • Responsible to provide cost control services (estimation, cost control, cash flow planning, change management) to the IA Project Senior Director and Tier 1 Project Director (GEM) in coordination with Finance, GEM & IA Global Engineering Guidelines (GEGs)
  • Responsible to provide detailed scheduling services and progress the associated scope of the construction phase to the IA Project Senior Director and Tier 1 Project Director (GEM) in coordination with GEM & IA Global Engineering Guidelines
  • Responsible to provide project reporting services including performance metrics in coordination with GEM & IA Global Engineering Guidelines
  • Manage the Engineering (internal & external) interfaces with the Tier 1 Project Director (GEM) and highlight and action concerns with team performance.
  • Represent the assigned Tier 1 Capital Project in various management committees as required.
  • Facilitate the involvement of stakeholders on critical issues identified through risk analysis and general project management practices; resulting in documentation/planning/resolution of critical issues and risks
  • Manage and develop the project delivery team during the construction phase including coaching, onboarding/offboarding and performance management.
  • Responsible for the definition of project scope and management of scope changes for the construction part of the project (with final authority for relevant scope/cost and schedule changes initiated through the CCN (Contemplated Change Notice) and PCA (Project Change Authorization) processes with appropriate approvals)
  • Authority for decisions regarding Global and Local Engineering procedures and on site project execution during the construction phase of the project.

About you

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Degree(s) in Chemical, Mechanical, and or Bio-Chemical engineering
  • 15+ years Engineering experience and delivery of large projects
  • 10+ years in Capital Project Management including cost and schedule management
  • 5+ years of leadership experience and ability to manage a large team
  • Occupational health and safety, construction and industry regulation knowledge
  • Relevant knowledge of GMP, FDA, HPFBI and EMA guidelines
  • Experience with the delivery of large projects within a bio-pharma environment

Technical Competencies/Soft Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • a proven history of experience in project management and project controls on large, multi-year projects >$100MCAD is essential.
  • Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is required.
  • Working outdoors is required.
