About this role


  • Develop sourcing strategies, acquisition plans, issue RFx’s, negotiate and issue PO/contracts and participate in cross-regional teams to execute those strategies;
  • Ensure the required procurement services are effectively delivered to the portfolio, including hands-on support provided by the incumbent as well as the use of internal and external resources as appropriate.
  • Lead the development of Project Procurement Plans, structured project reports, acquisition strategies, presentation materials and reports, and other documents and processes as needed for effective portfolio execution
  • Perform market research and an appropriate level of sourcing activities for equipment and materials as necessary to support the Portfolio requirements; secure the delivery lead time and purchase price data for input into every project budget and schedule.
  • Analyze contract general terms and conditions to highlight areas of risk such as ambiguities, conflicts or deviations from the scope of work. As work proceeds make recommendations to the business on the mitigation of these risks, closely monitor and support remedial actions.
  • Work with Category Managers and business stakeholder groups to facilitate development of specifications for assigned category or commodity;
  • Lead and or facilitate the supplier selection and negotiation process;
  • Manage and execute an active que of Purchase Orders in support of maintenance and operations;
  • Ability to fully understand and communicate defined savings methodologies, tracking, and report realized savings on a consistent basis;
  • Support Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), identify and drive supplier value generation and continuous improvement opportunities;
  • Monitor and manage key supplier performance for assigned categories and region;
  • Seek/record/update material source of supply information within the appropriate system to streamline future purchases;
  • Work with suppliers/internal stakeholders to resolve discrepancies between purchase orders and vendor invoices;
  • Along with Expediting, facilitate management and compliance of materials and delivery non-conformances by utilizing the appropriate procedure and working directly with end user and/or supplier. Identify gaps/trends/patterns;
  • Accountable to ensure Contractors are qualified to provide onsite labour;
  • Accountable for monitoring and ensuring contractors maintain a qualifying ISN grade at all times;
  • Maintain Supplier base for timely and accurate supply, ensuring contingency plans are in place;
  • Participate in ongoing continuous improvement initiatives;
  • Participate in business stakeholder groups and with Category Managers to coordinate sourcing activities;
  • Contacting vendors to obtain &/or verify price, part number, source of supply.
  • Make delivery arrangements with carriers and vendors.

About you


  • A University degree and/or Professional Designation, with 10+ years of related experience and a progressive record of professional development OR 15+ years combination of post-secondary education and related experience with continue professional development.
  • Clear record of successful engagement in key contracting and procurement activities. This would also include negotiating contract disputes and claims
  • Demonstrated ability to form effective relationship with key stakeholders under challenging deadlines and market conditions; Ability to persuade and educate stakeholders such that they gain a full appreciation for the various procurement contract risks, mitigation approaches, and realistic service levels and cost.
  • High level of proficiency in the use of a computer including the Microsoft office suite and SAP. SAP material management or plant maintenance areas considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills, time management and results oriented;
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated success in gathering data, conducting analyses, and generating high quality outputs;
  • Proven success in negotiation and stakeholder management;
  • Knowledge of eProcurement and eCatalog management systems is an asset;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, Outlook , SharePoint and PowerPoint;
  • Proficiency in Source-to-pay/Procure to pay tools (e.g., SAP MM, Ariba).
