On behalf of our Oil & Gas Operator client,
Brunel are seeking an experienced Technical Safety Engineer for a 12-month
(renewable) contract role based in Perth.

The successful Technical Safety Engineer will manage the Offshore and Onshore
Safety Cases during Operations, major updates and other regulatory submissions.
Maintain the Safety Case to ensure it remains a “live” document. Provide Safety
Case related advice and support to Operations and Management and monitor
ongoing compliance with relevant requirements. To provide Technical Safety
support to the business unit.

About this role

  • Manage and maintain the Safety Cases in accordance with regulatory requirements;
  • Compile and maintain the Safety Case supporting documentation in an accessible and usable format;
  • Promote Safety Case knowledge, awareness and compliance within operations and support teams;
  • Monitor operational changes which may drive the need for Safety Case revision and resubmission;
  • Co-ordinate third-party contractors performing Safety Case and formal safety assessment updates including budget, resources and schedule;
  • Liaise with the relevant regulator during Operations, Safety Case resubmission and assessment;
  • Technical Authority for Technical Safety, providing Operations support and approval of Technical Safety issues including Management of Change, Maintenance Deferrals and engineering requests;
  • Provide Technical Safety support to projects;
  • As the Technical Authority maintain the Safety Equipment Performance Standard and supporting Maintenance Strategy and monitor compliance;
  • Facilitate risk assessments such as HAZIDs and HAZOPs;
  • Support other HSE related such as HSE audits and incident investigations.

About you

  • Relevant engineering degree;
  • Minimum of 10 years’ technical safety/risk experience in the oil and gas industry;
  • Proven experience working safety cases within oil and gas production operations environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build and maintain positive relations with Operations and support team members, external stakeholders, internal business partners and regulatory agencies;
  • Knowledge of safety engineering software tools;
  • HAZID & HAZOP Leader training and experience;
  • Exceptional leadership, organizational, & problem-solving skills;
  • Flexibility to effectively manage a changing & dynamic work program;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Strong communication (written, oral & formal presentation/PowerPoint) skills essential;
  • Professional working experience / understanding of safety regulations & their applicability to oil & gas operations;
  • Experience managing 3rd-party contractors and consultants to cost-effectively achieve business goals;
  • Proven success in Safety Case and Formal Safety Assessment development and approvals;
  • Practical self-starter & can work effectively with minimal supervision.
