About this role

Job Purpose

  • Under general direction & delegated authority of Manager Laboratory, the Superintendent Laboratory — Polymer, leads and supervises the provision of Laboratory services for Steam Cracker and Polymer. He ensures that Laboratory manpower, equipment, facilities, material, method and procedure are ready to support commissioning and performance test run of the new SC and Polymer plant. As technical authority and owner of technical standards and codes to support the overall safe smooth and reliable operation, thru (1) Leading Steam Cracker and Polymer Laboratory Services including interface with corporate technical support services to comply with license to operate requirements, ensure safety, plant and laboratory integrity, availability: utilization, energy consumption, cost, emergency response, and product(s) quality targets to support yearly and longer-term plans and objectives for gross margin and profitability of the business are achieved or exceeded, (2) Overseas Quality assurance support to Operations, SCM and customers, (3) Leads both regulatory and value added based technical requirement, give the effective solutions to optimise business performance and in turn profitability, reinforcing a culture of safety compliance and quality improvement .
  • Superintendent Laboratory - Polymer will act in accordance with values, strategies, policies, guidelines. technology platform, plans, manuals, processes. procedures, standards, codes, protocols. prudent practices, legal requirements, HSE standards. Omani's regulations. best international practice generally and to the highest ethical standards.
Main Deliverables
  • Manage the commissioning of Polymer Lab, coordinating with project team, contractors, equipment vendors;
  • Oversee commissioning of the Steam Cracker Lab, through the Steam Cracker Lab Team leader;
  • Ensure implementation of quality and safety procedures in Steam Cracker and Polymer Lab and establish new procedures as needed;
  • Lead quality assurance support to Operation, SCM and customers;
  • Lead external coordination during Polymer plant performance test run and optimization;
  • Approve product quality certificates for Polymer plant and lead resolution of product quality issue;
  • Maintain relevance and currency of standards and codes and ensure strict compliance with standards and codes Champion and ensure comprehensive and effective implementation of Management Of Change (MOC) across Facilities;
  • Champion continuous improvement in work process and instrument reliability, increase productivity and cost reduction and availability of consumables and spares

About you


  • Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering Experience;
  • 12 years relevant experience in Polymer Laboratory with minimum 5 years in supervisory role;
  • Experience in Steam Cracker Laboratory preferred;
  • Laboratory commissioning and start up experience in Oil and Gas or Petrochemical plant preferred;
  • Knowledgeable about PP and PE technology, raw material and product, gained through actual experience from University of PE plant and Lyndon Basell PP Plant;
  • Familiar with PP and PE test method and laboratory equipment, QC and application testing;
  • Knowledge in the use of LIMS (particularly Labware) and SAP applications for data management and equipment breakdown history.
