About this role

As Safety Advisor for this major energy company, you will monitor compliance with safety policies and procedures, and establish a zero injury mindset. You will establish and implement project site-specific safety and security plans, and then monitor these – investigating issues, evaluating metrics and reporting as required. You will advise the site project team, so that safety requirements, any local regulations, and best practices, are instructed and adhered to.

You will also be a trainer, as well as a safety expert. You will coordinate the SSHE training program. You’ll promote safety awareness and initiatives that will roll out across the project team personnel, contractor and subcontractors.

You will be comfortable working in harsh environments. You are used to travelling and living away from home.

You will need to be experienced. Persuasive. Authoritative. Tough. Others listen to you and defer to your judgement in SSH&E matters. After all, it’s you keeping the project incident-free for another 24 hours.

You’ll be actively engaged in all stages of shutdowns, projects and capital work, gaining credibility and respect by visibly participating in the construction process. Your written and verbal suggestions will need to be communicated in a well thought-out manner.


  • Demonstrating the ability to reviewing and providing feedback on safety plans, procedures, JSAs, safe work plans, etc;
  • Effectively communicating with the company Construction Safety Specialists, stakeholders, contractors, peers and Construction and Project Management teams both in written and verbal communication;
  • Collecting and sharing company lessons between site and outside organizations where appropriate, including ensuring compliance with the site work permit system and area;
  • Conducting routine safety walks throughout the assigned project work sites, participate in incident investigations and leading any Root Cause Analysis (CA) as required;
  • Active involvement with Construction Inspectors assigned to project and supports Inspectors EHS concerns or guidance;

You read, write and speak fluent English, and you have experience working in multicultural/multilingual situations. You are committed to Stop Work principles, and ensuring the culture of the project reflects that.

About you

Must haves:

  • Prefer college level education or equivalent;
  • Demonstrated work experience in construction safety-related positions (including some prior oil and gas experience);
  • Knowledge of security processes and procedures;
  • Demonstrated ability (through past project successes) to deliver excellence in
    project SSH&E performance;
  • At least 5 years’ experience, plus safety certifications.

  • Able to handle fast-paced environments and changing situations, always looking ahead proactively;
  • Able to make critical, time-sensitive decisions to resolve issues that will impact daily operations;
  • Team-oriented, with excellent communication and customer service skills.
