Pipeline Construction Advisor

Our client is seeking a Pipeline Construction Advisor to work on the development and execution of the pipeline project related to their LNG facility. The pipeline is expected to be in service by end of 2022. The work is expected to be co-located initially in the Greater Vancouver area for coordination with the Pipeline Construction team. Once a pipeline design contractor is chosen, the location will move to the contractor’s office and eventually into the field for construction. The position will work closely with the Pipeline Construction team (and their contractors), who are the owners of the pipeline and will be responsible for the work for delivery of the Pipeline project.

About this role

  • Review and input into project construction strategy, especially for spreads, special crews, stockpiling, tie-ins and hydrotesting;
  • Analyze pipeline routing on a constructability and installation basis;
  • Provide practical construction inputs to the pipeline design and routing;
  • Assess risk, schedule and cost of alternative construction methodologies and provide input on preferred methodologies;
  • Analyze and provide input on routing, construction and installation methodologies, with special focus steep slopes, side hill work, rock work and crossings;
  • Review and input on cost estimate based on construction and installation, from a crew-up basis;
  • Review and input on construction schedules and march charts, including the interface with permitting, stakeholders and restricted work windows, timing;
  • Review and input into geotechnical surveys, route surveys, rock surveys and other surveys;
  • Review an input on route variants and micro-routing;
  • Review and input on quality management plan, quality assurance plan and quality control requirements and ongoing quality control;
  • Ensure international standards and best practices are adopted;
  • 100% compliance with health and safety and environmental requirements.

About you

  • Degree or Diploma in engineering within civil or technical discipline;
  • Extensive Construction Management experience in large pipeline projects;
  • Worked within an owners/operator group in a construction management role;
  • High level of interpersonal skills and ability influence through convincing positions and arguments;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide low cost options and analyze and trade-off cost, schedule and execution risk;
  • Managing risks and mitigation measures;
  • Reporting and communication of progress;
  • Facilitating and progressing the project with external stakeholders;
  • Previous experience in Canadian and BC regulatory requirements;
  • Highly responsible with a demonstrated commitment to delivery of tasks and targets;
  • Experience in tunneling and micro-tunneling preferred;
  • Willingness to relocate to agreed location and for given timeline if require.
