If you have 10-15 years of experience on polyolefins operating processes, then take a look at this Operations Advisor role on a major chemical derivatives production facility within the Gulf Coast area.

If you’ve got experience with furnaces or at a cracker plant, and you’ve had some experience bringing on and managing teams of operating personnel, then this is a great step up role for you, working on a large-scale production facility.

This position is based in Downtown Houston, with regular travel to site (up to 50%). Initially for 1 year, the contract is renewable (approx 3-5 years).

About this role

As Operations Advisor, you’ll be the primary contact for design and field operating issues on this major chemical derivatives production plant. Your experience makes you the subject matter expert for cracking processes involving polyolefins – polyethelene, polypropylene and other fractions.

Duties:

  • You will be a Subject Matter Expertise, reviewing process flow diagrams (PFD) and piping and instrumentation drawings (P&ID)
  • Defining the Plant and Equipment Isolation procedures
  • Drafting and refining the operations philosophy and behaviors and communicating these to all team members
  • Using 3D modelling for unit familiarization and to identify risks and potential solutions within and across production units
  • Working with multidisciplinary departments to ensure delivery of high capacity and high performance functional field operations
  • Reviewing recordables and lessons learned database to understand and mitigate risk at every step

Operations need to run safely, as well as high capacity. This is where you’ll be setting up the team – supporting shift-based operating personnel on the ground, selecting and training new team members, and ensuring knowledge is kept up to date at all times. And you’ll be leading and operating with safety at the heart of everything you do. You’ll be involved in developing the HSE philosophy for the plant, building on the foundations already in place.

About you

Required:

  • 10-15 years of refinery experience (at least 5 years of managing shift-based personnel)
  • Experience of HAZOP training (and related safety certifications)

Your Skills:

  • Able to assess operating personnel, identify and execute training as needed, ensuring safe operating at all times
  • Able to understand 3D rendering software in order to identify potential issues in the field
  • Able to gather information from all relevant disciplines, able to influence and persuade others in improving design and execution
  • Able to make critical, time-sensitive decisions to resolve issues that will impact daily operations
  • Team-oriented, with excellent communication and a strong safety record
