About this role

Mooring and Unmooring Operation

  • Pilotage of incoming vessel from waiting area or pilot boarding to a position at the stern or bow of the Terminal for the purpose of making fast to the Terminal Coordinate/supervise the tandem mooring of the tanker utilizing support vessels supplied by client for berthing assistance;
  • Ensure that the vessel is fully manoeuvrable without any limitations before piloting the vessel to moor and secure to the Terminal;
  • Upon completion of loading and when the vessel is ready to sail, the Mooring Master shall unmoor the vessel and navigate the vessel to a safe location clear of the Terminal, oil platforms, structures, barges, buoys and other objects in and around the oilfield, avoiding any “No Go” areas, before disembarking to return to the Terminal;
  • Safe handling of Vessel with the observance of good seamanship and;
  • Observance of safe practices with the objective of keeping risks as low as reasonable practicable.

Loading Operation

In addition of mooring the vessel, the Mooring Master shall assume the role of Loading Master. The duties and responsibilities of the Loading Master shall include the following:-

  • Maintain close liaison with the Terminal’s cargo control room during cargo operations;
  • Supervise and coordinate loading operations;
  • Ensure correct documentation of the crude/hydrocarbon loaded into the vessel’s cargo tanks;
  • Ensure that the HSE rules regulations, policies, procedures, practices and standards of the client are complied with in order to achieve a safe loading operation Inspect the vessel’s ballast tanks, if required and ensure that ballast discharge overboard is oil-free;
  • Advise the Offshore Installation Manager or the master of the vessel on actions to take in the event of adverse weather condition that may result in the vessel moving towards/away from the Terminal and/or any other movement which may jeopardize the safety of persons and/or property;
  • Observance of safe practices with the objective of keeping risks as low as reasonable practicable

About you

The Mooring Master shall have the following qualification and experience :

  • Age shall be less than 55 years at the time of mobilization;
  • Professional qualification equivalent to Class 1 Master Foreign Going Certificate of Competency onboard Crude Oil Tankers.
  • Possess “Unrestricted” license issued by a recognized authority such as pilotage licensing board;
  • Experience in handling tankers at single point mooring, tandem mooring and/or other mooring system shall be more than 3 years;
  • All Mooring Master shall have a valid Offshore Safety Passport, valid Offshore Medical endorsed by MPM AME and valid BOSIET that are required by the oil and gas industry in Malaysia. Any waiver to this requirement shall be at the discretion of the client and shall be obtained in writing from the client.
