About this role

Responsibilities

  • Determines the optimum balance by facility between Private Fleet and Carriers from safety, cost and service standpoints;
  • Understand business requirements from marketing, operations and sales teams to make informed decisions around capacity and service; Follows up on service failures with root cause analysis and network wide solutions;
  • Tracks utilization of tractors and trailers and drives the use of the private fleet, as well as making recommendations for the redeployment or addition of units;
  • Ensures that tractors and tank trailers are maintained according to preventative maintenance schedules and regulatory requirements with costs tracked by unit;
  • Tracks and reports on cost control programs (e.g. Fuel Purchasing, Tire Replacement);
  • Ensures that applications or renewals for licenses, permits or other programs are executed in an accurate and timely manner
  • Provides oversight to external vendors, particularly in consolidation of management reporting (DOT Medical and Substance Abuse Program, DOT Compliance Program);
  • Maintain, develop and drive continuous performance of the Key Performance Indicators related to transportation service in coordination with other stakeholders;
  • Participate in negotiation of truck freight contracts;
  • Negotiation and administration of lease contracts for tractors and tank trailers.

About you

Requirements

  • College or University degree in Supply Chain, Transportation, Business or related field required;
  • 5+ years relevant experience required, preferably in industrial or chemical processing environment;
  • High level of proficiency in Excel, Access, Word, Power Point; SAP experience – preferred;
  • Experience with both Common Carrier and Private Fleet preferred;
  • Must be able to multi-task and work on different deliverables within established timeline;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Superb interpersonal skills; strong team player;
  • General technical knowledge of trucking, bulk transportation and scheduling highly preferred;
  • Project management experience a plus.
