About this role

As a Lab Technician you will provide safe and high quality, cost-effective operation of a variety of testing equipment and laboratory operations. This will provide data for various separations process R&D programs and requested work to customers. You will also conduct experiments using hazardous chemicals following good laboratory practices and according to operational procedures.

In this role you will be provided work direction by one or more research engineers. Your work involves preparing separation agents (solvents, adsorbents, membranes, etc). As a lab technician you will be operating, troubleshooting, maintaining, and modifying separation and reaction testing equipment. A few separation and reacting testing include distillation, adsorption, and other reactive separation processes testing units.

Duties:

  • Assisting in research and development of new physical and chemical separation processes for removal of mercury from hydrocarbons. Your work is at the lab, bench, and potentially pilot scale.;
  • Operating, troubleshooting, fixing, and maintaining analytical instruments, such as gas chromatography, sulfur and nitrogen speciation detectors, Lumax mercury analyzers, etc;
  • You may set up new small bench scale equipment as needed. Using co-workers, the shops, and EH&S for more extensive building/modification of microunits;
  • Organizing, compiling, and filing data. You will be making basic calculations related to test runs and data workup. You be completing simple data interpretation, such as preparing graphs and Excel spreadsheets, and creating reports as needed;
  • Maintaining records (written and computer) of sufficient quality to support patent applications. Maintains an accurate and up to date laboratory note book

About you

Required:

  • 3+ years R&D ( Research & Development) laboratory experience, preferred in the areas of chemistry or chemical engineering;
  • Experience in safely handling hazardous chemicals;
  • Proficient in MicroSoft (Word, Outlook, Excel), data manipulation and graphing along with analytical instrument software;
  • Motivation to help develop and/or apply new analytical techniques such as GC (Gas-chromatography), HPLC(High Performance Liquid Chromatography).

Highly Desirable:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or two years college in Chemistry;
  • Previous Oil and Gas experience is a plus.

Skills:

  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously, with focus on completion, to a high level of performance;
  • Able to handle fast-paced environments and changing situations, always looking ahead proactively;
  • Must be able to learn quickly and bring forth new ideas and solutions;
  • Strong mathematical skills highly desirable.

This is a safety-sensitive position. You must maintains a clean, neat, and safe laboratory. This includes keeping the lab up-to-date on safety inspections. You will be maintaining a chemical inventory and other appropriate safety records for lab operations. It is imperative that you follows all safety regulations and procedures. You must be able to wear a respirator.
