Construction Coordinator - Multi Purpose Building

Our client, a leading chemical manufacturing corporation, is seeking a Construction Coordinator to join their team. This position will be responsible for management of construction contractors performing work during the construction of a building complex and surrounding grounds. The complex includes a two-story multipurpose building with control room, laboratory, mechanical shop, I&E shop, warehouses and offices. It also includes a contractor maintenance facility with two shops, emergency vehicle garage and lunchroom. This is an 18-month contract.

About this role

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the works are performed technically correctly in the responsible discipline
  • Maintain compliance with the RC plan and regulatory requirements
  • Review that all required provided materials are available to Construction Contractors
  • Anticipate and resolve problems encountered in the field to eliminate costly rework or retesting
  • Ensure work is performed per plans, procedures and specifications via coordination with the Quality Assurance plan
  • Participate in the QA/QC inspections for each scope
  • Manage interface between Construction Contractors
  • Participate in various meetings with Construction Contractors
  • Monitor progress to ensure Construction milestones are understood
  • Coordinate between the construction contractor and the project engineer to resolve field discrepancies in design packages and material delays utilizing the Project Change Management processes
  • Review contractor work performance and project status updates and participate in progress meetings as requested
  • Manage interface between project turnover activities with the Commissioning Engineer and Quality Assurance/Quality Control and Construction Contractors Groups
  • Manage the punch list completion
  • Maintains project awareness in order to keep Project Manager and others informed about status and potential project issues
  • Provide other technical office support as required by project team

About you

Requirements

  • Engineering Degree or Technologists Diploma and/or minimum of 6 years of building construction experience overseeing scopes including instrument, electrical, plumbing, steel and carpentry
  • Demonstrated knowledge of discipline expertise
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence others in a non-confrontational manner and work collaboratively
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret contract specifications, drawings and other construction documents.
