About this role

This is a permanent role leading the Process Safety Management discipline across regional and global manufacturing facilities to ensure sites are effectively managing risks.

This position is at a world-class commercial explosives industry, so safety standards go to the highest level.

You’ll be part of an international team delivering process safety standards and managing the process safety discipline. You’ll work closely with local and regional business leaders and HSE personnel.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing subject matter expertise and coaching to Process Safety Specialists and site leadership for manufacturing sites;
  • Providing technical support with the facilitation of semi-quantitative and quantitative risk assessments and independent Process Safety Incident Investigation as requested;
  • Leveraging the Process Safety discipline network to establish and monitor a standardized suite of Process Safety measures to understand performance;
  • Providing technical support to ensure full use of, and compliance with, the HSEC Management System, governance processes and assurance activities;
  • Ensuring the Safety Management System is embedded, and sustained, across all sites, with guidelines for facilities with hazards which could significantly impact employees, contractors, the community or the environment;
  • Using findings from monitoring and reporting activities to help set the regional/site Process Safety Improvement activities;
  • Performing independent process safety incident investigations for significant events, ensuring actions identified and implemented to address the root cause;
  • Recommending resourcing requirements to smaller sites that do not have an allocated PSM resource.

About you

Education

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering or other engineering disciplines;
  • Postgraduate vocational training in Process Safety;
  • Postgraduate vocational training in hazard studies/risk assessment - HAZOP/HAZID/LOPA/PHA.

Experience Required

  • Working knowledge of industry best practice with regards to Process Safety Management Systems, from the Centre for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) and the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE);
  • Good knowledge of Risk Management, including the application of ISO 31000;
  • Good knowledge of dispersion and fire/explosion consequence modeling, including the use of modeling software (e.g., PHAST);
  • Good knowledge of regional standards and legislation, including Major Hazard Facility requirements from the Work Health and Safety Act/Regulations (Australia) or the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (USA);
  • Facilitation of hazard studies and risk assessment (e.g., HAZOP, LOPA, and bow-tie analysis);
  • Auditing HSEC Management Systems/Process Safety Management elements

You’ll bring significant Process Safety leadership experience (approx. 8-10 years) in a complex manufacturing environment within the Chemicals Industry (or similar). Your resume will have some detail of your practical application of process safety principles within a hazardous facility.
Experience working in Australia or USA on a Major Hazard Facility under international legislation (e.g., UK HSE Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) or US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) or Australian Work Health and Safety Act/Regulations) is highly desirable.
