About this role

As Lead Blaster reporting to the Site Manager, you will be the expert in designing, preparing, and detonating planned explosive related blasts with correct, safe, and effective use of explosives. You'll be completing blasting reports, inventory records and all appropriate documentation in alignment with both the Company and customer's requirements at a variety of locations.

Safety is paramount and you will use practices consistent with both company policies and all procedures from applicable technical modules, Surface Blasting SOP, work site, regulatory and safety policies and procedures. You'll need thorough knowledge of relevant blast products and processes, as well as explosive and mining industries and practices. You'll use your general knowledge and understanding of explosives technology, basic geology, and seismology to design the appropriate use of explosives for each customer.

You'll be travelling, so you must be able to drive and operate straight bed vehicles over public roads to get explosive products to company or customer sites in a timely and safe manner. You'll also be required to operate a bulk/blend truck in order to prepare and deliver quality explosive products to customer sites. You'll use your HSE knowledge to operate and perform maintenance on straight, ANFO, and dewatering trucks, to deliver and offload product using safe procedures and practices.

Other duties include:

  • Calibrating equipment, calculating fuel percentages and checking emulsion density
  • Loading and unloading all trucks, and maintain magazines, sites, and inventories
  • Investigating all product complaints and poor performing blasts, and reporting these to the proper bodies
  • Developing your own expert capability in Value-In-Use applications, including electronic detonators, gassing and blasting technology

You'll need knowledgeable of, and be able to comply with applicable DOT, OSHA, MSHA, EPA, and BATFE. You'll be able to work accurately with numbers and perform simple mathematical calculations. You will work with the Industry Sales Team on technical sales and marketing support for targeted national/major accounts.

You'll use your people skills to develop professional relationships with both internal and external customers, responding in a professional and timely manner to address problems and business requests. You'll be able to spot and suggest better service requirements to continually improve customer profitability.

About you

Must haves:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
    Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of one year of related explosives industry work (i.e. bulk truck operator, de-watering truck operator)
  • Must satisfy the requirements for a “possessor of explosives” as defined by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms
  • You'll need to have (or be able to acquire) and maintain all appropriate licenses and certifications required by federal, state and county entities (e.g. blaster licenses)
  • You'll need a valid CDL with HAZMAT and Air Brakes endorsements

Also required are basic computer skills, and the ability to learn the use of technical tools. You will need to satisfactorily complete and demonstrate your competencies in the Company's specified training modules, including technical, regulatory and other applicable skill-based training.
