About this role

As Facility Manager you’ll be leading operations, overseeing all aspects of a major site, leading the team, maintaining safety standards and maximizing production.

This is a permanent role, based in California, where you will be working for a global leader in resource recovery, with operations across North America serving municipal, industrial, commercial, and agricultural markets.

There’s three main aspects to this role.

Firstly, there’ll be a strong focus on building, coaching and leading a team of operations, maintenance, and plant support employees at the site. Your previous experience managing effective teams, handling conflicts, and creating a culture of collaboration will be invaluable in this role. You’ll have previous experience running a facility (Administration, Operation and Engineering). You will bring your understanding of issues and resolutions through preparation and contingency planning. As the leader on site, you have responsibility for establishing and maintaining world class safety and environmental standards for the entire operation, while driving a strong culture of operational discipline.

Secondly, as Facility Manager you will have overall responsibility managing all aspects of the site. This ranges from safety, environmental, financial, HR, administration, legal, engineering, operations, maintenance, and project management. You’ll be developing, reviewing and implementing procedures to improve operational efficiencies for every function. You’ll identify and implement Best Practice while maintaining safety standards and all regulatory compliance requirements. Whether you’ve come up through operations, HR, another field, or you started with a college degree, it’s your hands on experience that’ll count here. Technical expertise is important, and your experience will ideally include at least one of: Anaerobic Digestion, Wastewater Treatment, Industrial Processes, Solid Waste and/or Power Production.

Because this plant is so large, this role will report directly to the Vice President of Plant Operations. So the third aspect is the major component of business leadership. The Facility Manager needs to meet financial, operational, and performance goals for the facility and manage contractual matters for the site.
Through a combination of personal skills, expertise and authority, the Facility Manager will develop and deploy lean, efficient production. With your attention on operational excellence, quality improvement, customer and supplier engagement, enhanced equipment reliability, optimal repair and maintenance practices, business process consulting, supply chain development and alignment of the production line, you will successfully achieve every goal on new product quality and developments.

About you

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in business or technical field (12+ years of progressive relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree)
  • At least 8 years of Facility Management experience (Administration, Operation and Engineering)
  • Experience of similar facilities including Anaerobic Digestion, Wastewater Treatment, Industrial Processes, Solid Waste and/or Power Production is highly desirable

Your Skills:

  • Able to handle changing situations, always looking ahead proactively
  • Able to make critical, time-sensitive decisions to resolve issues that will impact daily operations
  • Team-oriented, with excellent communication and customer service skills
