About this role

In this role you will have a major impact across several functions, and influence the successful business direction of the company. Your focus will be on developing Environment, Health and Safety Management systems, as the company must remain compliant with relevant federal regulatory requirements at all times.

You will have a major influence on the culture of the company as it rapidly expands. You will use your technical knowledge to promote engineering control concepts and design, as well as policy development. You will be coaching and mentoring site personnel to drive operational excellence and safety, using your team-forming and leadership skills.

Your experience in either Manufacturing and Engineering, or the Environmental, Health & Safety Industry will form the bedrock of your expertise in this role. You will supplement your own knowledge by obtaining regulatory interpretations as required from third-party Environment, Health and Safety Subject Matter Experts.

Main duties include:

  • Identifying and implementing Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) work processes and standard operating procedures, applying risk management principles to drive risk reduction (including risk assessments and developing EH&S programs)
  • Managing program audits and supporting EHS initiatives (eg. 5S, Safety Observations, SafeStart)
  • Analyzing EHS data and trends, tracking metrics such as safety key performance indicators and regulatory inspection results
  • Creating training that inspires and influences facility personnel to achieve EHS goals safely, encouraging process improvements, visual controls and other HOC programs
You will ensure full and consistent compliance to State and City regulations regarding hazardous and dangerous goods handling, storage, and transportation.

You will track all necessary permits so that these are issued in a timely manner and kept up to date.

In the unlikely event of incidents, you would lead Root Cause Investigations and propose improvements to reduce future risk. You would deliver corrective action processes, using management of change (MOC) processes.

About you

Sound technical and regulatory-based safety and process safety management knowledge is required for this role, including up-to-date awareness of regulations, laws and standards (OHSA).

  • Experience in development of EHS protocols, tools and systems, with a wide range of risk
assessment methods, engineering control design and implementation experience
