About this role: Site-Based Engineer

Brunel Papua New Guinea are seeking expressions of interest for various Site-Based Engineering roles to support the delivery of Project Management and Supervision Consultancy (PMSC) services for all site construction, works and activities in Papua New Guinea. Applicants must have experience in the Port / Infrastructure sector, or comparable experience. Applicants with experience working in PNG or other comparable remote locations will be strongly favoured. The position will offer attractive salary packages commensurate with experience.

The Engineer roles will supervise the works, ensuring accountability and effective implementation of construction works in each port location as well as participate in mentoring of staff in their region. The Engineers will be based on each site.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Lead, supervise and guide contractor(s) to ensure that all obligations under the PMSC and construction contracts are fulfilled to the requested quality and timeframe.
  • Coordinate the inputs to achieve the optimal outcome of works supervision and contract administration.
  • Provide technical back-up, focusing particularly on quality assurance, mitigating risks of fraud and corruption, and mitigating workplace health and safety (WHS) and environmental and social safeguards risks.
  • Mentor and provide hands-on training to Engineer(s) seconded to the Project.
  • Manage and coordinate with subordinate technical staff (Engineer Inspectors) on site to carry out and record all site QA/QC processed per the works contract.

What you need to bring:

  • Mentor and provide hands-on training to Engineer(s) seconded to the Project.
  • Manage and coordinate with subordinate technical staff (Engineer Inspectors) on site to carry out and record all site QA/QC processed per the works contract.
  • Tertiary engineering qualifications and eligibility for membership of Institution of Engineers PNG (or equivalent).
  • Highly effective leadership and management skills.
  • At least 5 years broad experience in the management of ports and associated infrastructure works including in PNG or other developing countries.
  • Experience in living and working in remote locations.
  • Demonstrated experience and strong capabilities in contract management, including staff and financial management of construction contracts.

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience on port construction contracts in PNG.
  • Familiar with FIDIC Conditions of Contract or similar contracts
  • Ability to transfer knowledge and build capacity of counterpart personnel.
