Brunel Trash ‘n Trace ‘a journey to clean the earth and eradicate litter’

The Brunel Foundation continuously strives to build new habits and sustainable alternatives within Brunel but also around the world. That is why Brunel’s Trash ‘n Trace in partnership with Literatti was created: to make world citizens participate in building a greener world.

Every year in mid-september, it’s World Environment Day: the United Nations Day for encouraging awareness and action to protect our environment. On this special day in 2020, the Brunel Foundation presented ‘Brunel Trash ’n Trace’. The initiative ties in with the Brunel Foundation's focus on actions to reduce (plastic) waste before it reaches our waters. It aligns with our belief that every change we make, every piece of plastic we don’t use or clean up, will make a difference.

Since the introduction of Trash ‘n Trace we collected over 340.000 pieces of litter, with the help of 368 participants in 40+ countries. And still counting.

With Brunel Trash ‘n Trace we like to encourage you, on an individual basis or with friend, family, colleagues and others, to make a start with cleaning up your environment by collecting litter and waste from our beaches, rivers, forests, sports areas, and streets. Only if corona regulations allow this and with the right precautions. If you have the opportunity to make walks in your neighborhood, why not use the occasion to pick up some litter at the same time?

Trash n Trace

To support these individual clean up activities and make more impact Litterati created an app that is empowering people to make a significant, measurable impact on the environment as an individual. How does it work?

• Scan the QR code on your phone

• Download the Litterati app on the App Store or get it on Google Play

• Join the Brunel Global Trash ‘n Trace Challenge – Challenge code 370283

• See a piece of litter where it doesn’t belong?

• Take a picture and tag it

• The app will apply a geo-tag and timestamp the picture

• Don’t forget to clean up the litter

• Do your friends & family want to join? Invite them by providing the challenge code

Together all these pictures create a database of litter maps all around the world. The collected data will be used to create awareness, convince governments to introduce e.g. a deposit programme or to challenge organisations to find sustainable solutions for a litter-free world. You'd be surprised what a difference picking up one piece of trash can make.
