Introduction

Our client are a Tier 3 builder with projects across Queensland in the Government, Defense, Aged Care, Healthcare and Commercial industries. They're looking to bring on board a State HSE Manager in order to improve clunky processes and streamline their safety.

With 15+ years already operating within the industry and a vast wealth of construction knowledge amongst their senior staff, they're on an incredible journey of growth with turnover growing year on year ($100m+ last year across QLD). You'll be joining at a pivotal moment of growth as this begins to taper off in the coming few years cementing their place in the market.

You will have a team of experienced Safety Advisors to work alongside and be provided with the support and tools needed to succeed within the role.

About this role

Responsibilities:

As the State HSE Manager, you will ensure a high standard of Health, Safety, and Environmental practices across projects. Duties include:
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership on all HSE matters across the state.
  • Develop and implement HSE policies and procedures in line with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all projects comply with local, state, and federal HSE regulations, particularly within the defense and government sectors.
  • Conduct regular HSE training sessions for staff and subcontractors to promote awareness and adherence to safety standards.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate potential HSE risks on projects, implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Lead investigations into HSE incidents, ensuring thorough reporting and analysis, and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Prepare and present regular HSE performance reports to senior management, highlighting key metrics and areas for improvement.
  • Conduct regular HSE audits and site inspections to ensure ongoing compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders regarding HSE matters, maintaining positive and professional relationships.




Requirements

  • Minimum 5 - 7 years of experience in HSE management within the commercial construction industry (required).
  • Relevant qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (including professional certifications such as NEBOSH, Cert IV in WHS, or equivalent)
  • In-depth knowledge of Australian HSE laws and regulations.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in HSE management software and tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset.
