About this role: Mine Technician

Our client, a BC based exploration and development company, is seeking a candidate for their mining operations team to ensure short and medium range plans are being met and followed. They have just completed construction & commissioning and are moving on to phase 3.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to see the evolution of the mine go from Open pit to an underground mine.

Responsibilities

  • Indirect supervision the mining operation to ensure short and medium range plans are being met and followed.
  • Direct field supervision and direction of mining operation to ensure ore control practice meets Company’s quality control
  • Maintain a good working relationship with Company and Contractor staff.
  • Planning for short range meet ore release guidance.
  • Suggest improved techniques for ore delineation and recovery.
  • Continually demonstrate leadership in site safety and health initiatives.
  • Following the Mining Tracker Standard Operating Procedure and the Daily Procedures Standard Operating Procedure established by the Company and provided to the Consultant.

Safety

  • Actively participate in Tailgates, Safety meetings, and other stakeholder meetings

Daily Routine

  • Daily field crest and toe pickups
    • maintain daily accurate as-built maps or models of active pit & dump areas
    • Provide an E sized map posted in the Mine Dry
    • Place grade stakes at working faces to assist excavator operators and Pit Shifter to maintain bench grade
    • Provide pit operations crew with drill pattern preparation requirements
    • Layout control or limit stakes for construction

Drilling

  • Under the supervision of the client, draft drill and blast designs/layouts that has been checked for bootlegs.
    • Provide a drill pattern map of suitable scale (TBD) to Drill Foreman, all Drillers, Pit Shifter, Pit Superintendent and GMTN Staff
    • The drill pattern map will indicate North Arrow, Pit Grid, perimeter of previously drilled holes for the bench being drilled and the design layout with hole numbers
    • The Blast design map will include a legend indicating blast name, pattern dimensions, subgrade and explosive collar and any other pertinent information
  • Other work that is deemed necessary

Blasting

  • Measure and record production drill holes daily and in advance of blasting
  • Flag all production drill holes as re-drills if the hole is 0.3 meters short
  • Prior to blasting, survey all loaded holes and indicate all unloaded holes
  • Under the supervision of the client, Elk Project (GMTN) provides blast tie-in to Drill and Blast Foreman and pit shifter
  • Maintain a specific and up to date database for drilling and blasting (TBD)
    • Must include design map
    • Layout file
    • Asbuilt file
    • Tie-in
    • Other pertinent information
  • Provide drilled, Drilled and Loaded and Blasted inventory
  • Other work that is deemed necessary
  • Other duties as may be required.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience, preferred
  • Degree in mine engineering/technology/geology
  • Experience with underground mines (asset)
  • Working knowledge of Minesight software’s
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
