Major O&G operator looking for Exploitation Engineer on 28/28 rotation.

Principle Function (Job Description):

Reporting to the Chief Division Exploitation the focus of this role revolves around the following key areas: optimizing production capacity, product quality, HSE performance, operational reliability and integrity of the assigned asset.

Major Duties and Principle Areas:

  • Sustaining, optimizing and improving plant capacity, compliance, capability, and availability, (e.g. utilization, mechanical availability, identification of performance gaps, operations availability).
  • Contributing to the HSE performance for exploitation department and associated assets.
  • Strong technical process understanding of refinery and/or petrochemical plant operations.
  • Managing internal assurance systems and resolving audit findings, as well as making investigation recommendations.
  • Maximizing the effectiveness of the operations team.
  • Managing risk within and across production units.
  • Developing the leadership capacity of personnel.
  • Mentoring personnel in department level compliance assurance,
  • Participate in site compliance audits & assessments; prioritize & close findings.
  • Proven track record in dealing with complex issues and generating alternative ideas.
  • Team-oriented, with excellent communication and a strong safety record.
  • Able to make critical, time-sensitive decisions to resolve issues that will impact daily operations.
  • Practical knowledge of and experience with the following:• Permit to work systems; process safety management; risk assessments; process trip investigations; management of change; operational procedure review and updating• Distributive and integrated control and safety system operation• HMI operator interfaces and fire and gas safety system philosophies in plan operations
    • Pipeline management; produced water treatment; water injection including chemical treatment, high voltage electrical power generation; plant utilities including air, water and nitrogen; reverse osmosis operation• Gas and liquid measurement and allocation• Experienced in application and operation of standards and procedures related to Process Safety Management facilities.Proven track record in dealing with complex issues and generating alternative ideas.
    Able to make critical, time-sensitive decisions to resolve issues that will impact daily operations.Team-oriented, with excellent communication and a strong safety record.


  • Bachelors of Science (BSc) or Engineering (BEng) in Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering or equivalent engineering related degree.
  • At least 10 years of experience in Oil & Gas industry, a large proportion of which should have been in oil and gas plant operations.
  • May accept operational experience from non-degreed candidates with a minimum of 10 years experience in a supervisory position in the Oil & Gas facility operations.
  • Strong technical, planning, communication and reporting skills.Working knowledge and understanding of relevant industry codes and standards.
  • Must be a self-starter capable of analysing and solving problems within his / her discipline and interfacing with a multi-disciplined engineering team.
  • Good interpersonal skills combined with effective oral and written English candidates preferably have effective oral and written French skills.
  • Able to work in on a 28/28 day rotational basis (12 hours per day 7 days per week whilst on shift) in a desert environment where outside temperatures can reach 50º C and transportation to the work location/site is via light fixed winged aircraft.
  • Have a good understanding of industry safety practices and be able to demonstrate general HSE cultural understanding and awareness for Oil & Gas facilities.
