About this role: Estimator

One of Sydney's renowned commercial builders with over 40 years’ experience is looking for an Estimator to work on a pipeline of state-of-the-art projects.

Role Overview

Effectively manage the vertical Estimating function within by utilising the provided software programs, intellectual property, and experience. Produce competitive tender submissions, BOQ’s and material take offs by reviewing tender documentation, tender drawings, specification, client standard details, project scope of works, program and create accurate Estimates that reflects project requirements.

Pre project Delivery

  • Develop contract proposals to support organisational goals
  • Review contract estimates, including proposed materials, production costs, etc and determine whether they seem reasonable and accurate
  • Review and amend contracts on an ongoing basis
  • Ensure that all records are accurate and up to date
  • Write contract letters and other communications and notices
  • Analyse contracts to ensure they comply with state and federal laws and regulations
  • Liaise with Subcontractors for any project enquiries including scheduling, scope of works, project outcomes
  • Assist Project Managers, Project Engineers, and other staff with various ad hoc tasks
  • Understand terms and conditions of Subcontract Agreements and Purchase Orders
  • Analyse potential risks involved with specific contract terms
  • Ensure all deadlines and conditions described on contracts and purchase orders are met (e.g., payments and shippings)
  • Tender drawings and identify risks, and value engineering opportunities
  • Prepare tender documents, including detailed SOW, methodology and tender construction program
  • Review quotations and prepare subcontractor analysis sheet for review
  • Prepare letter of offer for review, including assumptions and clarifications
  • Manage RFI process
  • Complete detailed handover to the construction team once pre construction approval is achieved
  • Assist with the completion of financial close out of the project and lessons learnt session
  • Participate in performance feedback and performance appraisals sessions
  • Hold knowledge regarding the technical side of building and services and update knowledge banks across the business.
  • Ensure all opportunities to optimise project value are explored and considered to generate a creative business solution with practical outcomes
  • Ensures that an appropriate industrial relations management plan is implemented for the project and a professional relationship is maintained with the relevant union organisations to manage the resolution of any industrial issues that may arise
  • Preparation of Works to Proceed Checklist

    Client and Subcontractor Management

  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients and other external stakeholders and establish client management plans.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with sub-contractors
  • Update and Maintain Tender Master sheet

    Financial/Contract management

  • Assist with the Management of the project costs, subcontract orders, variations, and forecasts for cost reports and review
  • Ensure all opportunities to optimise project value are explored and considered to generate a creative business solution with practical outcomes
  • Manage the resolution of project risks and opportunities to ensure the optimal financial outcome for the project
  • Assist in preparing the overall cost report, project profit plan, forecasts, and cash flow and present in the Project Review meetings
  • Ensure compliance with the head contract terms and conditions

Requirements

  • Strong administration and organisational skills
  • Experience in developing response offer documents and in particular communicating offer value
  • Ability to work with and co-ordinate multiple stakeholders across the organisation
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and prioritise tasks, while adapting to changing priorities
