Introduction

Are you passionate about creating safe, intuitive, and user-centered medical devices that improve people's lives? As a Usability Engineer & Validation Lead, you will play a key role in shaping the user experience of innovative healthcare products while ensuring compliance with international medical device regulations.

What are you going to do 

  • Lead usability engineering activities throughout the product development lifecycle, including user research, workflow analysis, usability evaluations, risk assessments, and post-market usability improvements.
  • Define and execute design validation strategies, validation plans, protocols, and product validation activities to ensure products meet user, business, and regulatory requirements.
  • Advise multidisciplinary development teams on Human Factors, usability, UI/UX, and design improvements while ensuring compliance with international medical device standards.
  • Collaborate with project teams and global stakeholders to deliver high-quality documentation, support regulatory submissions, and contribute to the development of safe, effective, and user-centered products.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • A Master's degree or PhD in Human Factors Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Cognitive Science, Product Design, Interaction Design, or a related field.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in usability engineering for medical devices.
  • Hands-on experience with design validation, usability testing, task analysis, Human Factors Engineering, and usability risk management.
  • Strong knowledge of medical device regulations and standards, including IEC 62366-1, FDA Human Factors Guidance, FDA 21 CFR 820.30, EU MDR, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, and NMPA guidelines.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary product development teams in an international environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Must live in the Netherlands
