Introduction

  • Operates and adjusts Transmission and Distribution facilities as directed by General Operator / Senior Operator

    within designated limits to ensure maximum reliability (uninterrupted) of gas supply to the consumers (Industries and Power Stations) on assigned shift. Will work on standby duty on a rotational basis. Regular checking, operating and troubleshooting of all GDS process and utility equipment’s at the field as assigned.

  • The Operator-I is expected to work as directed in any of the GDS areas covered by the Transmission and Distribution Department.
  • The Operator I may be required to work on shifts depending on the area to which he is assigned Principle / Key.

What are you going to do 

  • Regular checking the status of the pipeline and stations of all process and utility equipment’s in the field.
  • Prepare field checklist and report to senior operator and General operator.
  • Monitor all equipment’s like air compressor, generator, pumps, pressure control valves, flow

    Control valves, Emergency Shut-off Valves, ethane gas compressors and its auxiliaries running

    Equipment in the field as assigned and report to control room and senior operator.

  • Ensure proper the lineup of RV/PSV and control valves as advised by senior operator or General

    operator, prepare weekly RV/PSV checklist, and get it verified by senior operator and Supervisor.

  • Record Gas Flow Totalizer readings accurately and timely on daily basis and assist senior operator/general operator to prepare daily gas metering report.
  • Carry out control valve change-over without plant upset, report the performance of the control

    valves and report to the control room accurately and timely.

  • Regular checking of all utility equipment, diesel generator and air compressors at various GDS

    stations, if any fault report to control room and senior operator, liaise with maintenance team and get it attended.

  • Monitor and check the fuel storage level for generators at the Stations and ensure the portable

    water availability. Shortfall to be reported to control room and assist senior operator to liaise with concerning supplier.

  • Patrol the oil and gas pipelines at TD operating area as assigned. Report any abnormalities to

    central master control room and to concerned senior operator / supervisor.

  • Check the plant area and pipelines in the field at various GDS station and pipeline for gas leak and fault, report to control room timely and accurately.
  • Assist senior operator for preparing equipment for routine maintenance or planned shutdown.
  • Involved in pigging operation of various GDS pipelines, line up the pig receiver, purging, depressurizing and pressure testing of pig receiver/ launcher, including safe retrieval.
  • Monitors all Transmission and Distribution activities in the field at GDS Stations and pipelines

    report to control room the progress of the activities.

  • Assists lab technicians to collect sample or personally taking samples and submitting to Laboratory in

    accordance with standard procedures. Accompany Laboratory Personnel for their Sampling work.

  • Assists senior operator or Permit controller to liaise with relevant personnel of Maintenance and Corporate

    HSE Department and issues cold work, spark potential, hot work permits and confined space entry certificates and approves daily sanction as Area Authority.

  • Assists senior operator or Permit controller for isolation, depressurizing, purging and equipment preparation

    for the approved maintenance/project work. Carries out gas tests for hot work permits, park potential permits and confined space entry certificates including receiving such permits and certifying the unit is gas free.

  • Checks permits issued for shutdown or modification work or project to determine work to be Carried out safe.

    Monitor the work (on/off basis) of contractors and report to control room of any safety breaches, checks actual

    work carried out and advises Senior operator / Permit controller of progress.

  • Register all daily activities in logbooks at assigned stations on a daily basis, bring into the

    Attention of senior operator and CMCS control room for any key events recorded.

  • Prepare check list daily, weekly or monthly as specified, indicating availability and operability
  • of standby equipment’s, fire alarms and firefighting systems, gas detectors, smoke detectors, etc. If found any defects report to CMCS control room and senior operator for further action.
  • Maintains pool vehicle (TDO division) in good condition and report any defects to the attention of Senor Operator to arrange with Field Support Department (Gas Operations) and removal of breakdown vehicles and up keeping of service vehicles.
  • Ensure during shutdown and start-up operations to check that all procedures are followed, and that work is carried out under a safe manner.
  • Participate in emergency drills as directed by Supervisor. Follow the correct instruction from the superiors in correct course of action and follow the correct procedures.
  • Carries out site checks of new project activities in field, participate in control and monitoring of contractors

    safety practices.

  • Assist Senior Operator for implementation of modifications, installation, pre- commissioning and

    commissioning of new equipment’s, involvement of commissioning of new projects handled by third party.

  • Report all incidents, accidents, near miss, gas leaks and abnormalities to control room Immediately and

    bring into the attention of senior operator.

  • Participate in safety programs by taking active in inspection of safety equipment (Fire Extinguishers, B.A. Sets, Flammable Gas Detector, Toxic Gas Detectors, Manual Call- Points) and take part in emergency drills Area

    Field Authority (for headcount and safe evacuation of contractor staff to allocated Assembly Points).

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Completion of Secondary (12 years) education followed by 1-year full time technical training in process plant operations to City and Guilds Institute First Certificate level plus relevant short courses in safety, plant operations.
  • Fair written and spoken English.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in operating process plant in the oil or petrochemical industry. Periodic contact at own level with Transmission and Distribution personnel and provide information on faults.
  • Qatar Traffic Department – Holder of a Light Vehicle Driving License
