Introduction

Leading the global energy transition by developing a portfolio of renewable energy and green hydrogen projects, our client is developing large scale, low-cost hydropower, geothermal, solar and wind assets that will support establishment of green energy and green product industries around the world.

The announcement of the project to construct a green hydrogen and ammonia plant in Brisbane means we require a Lead Mechanical Engineer responsible for the mechanical engineering, technical design and interfaces across the H2 Project green hydrogen plant, providing technical assurance, risk assessments and supporting progress through various phases of project development.

What are you going to do 

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Lead mechanical engineering role, providing mechanical static design and engineering activities during feasibility, detailed design, execution, commissioning and start-up phases
  • Review of mechanical drawings, requisitions and specifications Liaise with other Lead Engineers on respective discipline engineering requirements and interface issues relating to rotating equipment, static equipment, piping, materials and tanks
  • Review and approve key business deliverables including those with significant multi-discipline content
  • Participate in contract tender evaluations
  • Assure technical oversight of Engineering Contractor activities
  • Ensure effective application of mechanical engineering meets the basis of design requirements of the project
  • Communicate and interface effectively with other disciplines, FFI mechanical engineering function, ammonia facility operator / JV partner, engineering specialist providers and vendors
  • Participate in specific detail design reviews and evaluations including technical safety reviews of design, HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, QRA, risk analysis
  • Contribute to building a frugal cost-conscious attitude throughout the project team
  • Achieve and maintain effective communication with the project delivery team, and other internal and external stakeholders at all times

Essential skills and knowledge 

Bachelor’s degree of Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent study

  • 15+ years’ experience working in a project setting from feasibility studies through to start-up
  • Experience in overseeing EPC design activities and delivering large projects
  • Experience in static equipment design, materials, fabrication, testing of pressure vessels / heat exchangers etc
  • Experience in vendor assessments, quality assurance and supplier qualification
  • Strong leadership skills and experience in leading direct and indirect reports
  • Knowledge of Australian and international codes, standards and industry specifications
