Introduction

We are seeking multiple Communications Specialists for permanent and contract opportunities supporting a large underground mining operation in South Australia. These are hands-on positions working across fibre, structured cabling, CCTV, network switches, wireless access points and communications infrastructure on an 8:6 FIFO roster.

What are you going to do 

As a Communications Specialist, you'll be responsible for the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of communications and network infrastructure across an operational underground mine.

This is a hands-on field position where you'll work directly with communications infrastructure, fibre, cabling and network equipment rather than being based behind a desk.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, terminate, test and troubleshoot communications cabling.

  • Clean, prepare, terminate and splice fibre optic cables.

  • Diagnose and repair fibre and communications faults.

  • Install and maintain CCTV and camera systems.

  • Install, configure and troubleshoot network switches.

  • Install and support wireless access points.

  • Perform hands-on fault finding across site communications infrastructure.

  • Support fibre, IP networking and wireless communications systems.

  • Carry out preventative maintenance and infrastructure upgrades.

  • Diagnose connectivity, hardware and network issues.

  • Support communications equipment across underground and operational areas.

  • Complete technical documentation and maintenance activities.

  • Work safely within an operational underground mining environment.

Essential skills and knowledge 

  • Current cabling licence.

  • Hands-on fibre optic cabling experience.

  • Fibre preparation, termination, testing and splicing.

  • Strong communications fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.

  • CCTV / camera installation experience.

  • Installation and troubleshooting of network switches.

  • Experience installing and supporting wireless access points.

  • Understanding of IP networking and communications infrastructure.

  • Ability to work autonomously in a site-based environment.

  • Strong commitment to safety and quality of work.

Highly Regarded:

  • Underground mining experience.

  • Mining, resources or heavy industrial experience.

  • Cisco switching and networking experience.

  • Wireless or mesh network experience.

  • LTE or TETRA experience.

  • Experience supporting critical operational communications infrastructure.
