About this role: SVP, Drug Discovery

We’re hiring an SVP for Drug Discovery at a leading pharmaceutical company. This professional will be providing strategic leadership, research, and development acumen for the drug discovery efforts at this company’s Boston site. The SVP will be responsible for building and overseeing preclinical drug development programs from concept through IND submission.

  • Driving and implementing the strategic vision, scientific strategy, and execution roadmap for drug discovery to deliver a robust pipeline for new drug development.
  • Leading the scientific direction in drug discovery through acquired experience and scientific excellence, steering the exploration and establishment of new scientific technologies and platforms.
  • Hire, train, develop, retain, and motivate a high caliber, high-performing, and well-aligned drug discovery organization.
  • Ensuring the drug discovery organization delivers its objectives on time, within cost, to the required standards, and within a clear prioritization framework.
  • Working closely with the Business Development team and personal network to establish, drive and maintain external partnerships (academic, biotech companies) that add value, create flexibility, access expertise, and drive enhanced returns for new drug development.
  • Partnering with internal research and development teams to collaborate on shared high-priority goals.
  • Contributing to the larger globalization strategy and execution plan, as well as the establishment of the Boston site.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in biology/microbiology/oncology ideal.
  • 15 + years relevant industry experience in pharma/biotech setting with extensive experience overseeing or co-leading projects from discovery to the clinic.
  • Track record of researching and discovering novel oncology biologics (small molecules can be considered) and advancing them into IND-enabling studies.
    • Track record in building and leading high-performance teams within an entrepreneurial environment.
